WHO IS JAMES M. ELLIOTT

James M. Elliott PT, PhD, FAPTA is one of those rare individuals who defies a single introduction. He is a Professor at the University of Sydney, Director of the Kolling Institute, a world-leading trauma researcher, a former professional baseball player with the San Diego Padres — and an author whose books have moved readers across thirty countries to tears, to action, and to finally telling their own truth.

In his work, James Elliott writes and speaks about the topics most people spend a lifetime avoiding: trauma, shame, silence, and recovery. He explores what sport teaches us about being human, what trauma research reveals about why some people heal while others don’t, and what occurs when one person decides to stop pretending and start telling the truth — publicly, precisely, and without apology.

He is, in short, exactly the kind of person your audience needs to hear from, and for those interested in more information, a media press kit is available.

Short Biography (100 words)

I’m James Elliott, and I’ve worn many hats—from professional athlete to academic scientist and executive leader—but the common thread is a passion for empowering communities. Whether I’m advising global organizations or sharing stories of resilience, my goal is to find innovative solutions for human wellbeing. My mission includes:

Advocacy: Supporting male survivors of childhood trauma as an NED at SAMSN.

Innovation: Tackling health equity and trauma recovery through collaborations with NASA, Velocity Health, and Ho'ōla Nā Pua.

Scientific Impact: Co-creating MuscleMap, a revolutionary open-source platform for large-scale muscle imaging and analysis that accounts for age, sex, and race on a global scale. For more details, you can refer to my media press kit, which highlights my work in trauma research and advocacy.
